DURHAM REGION - There are some benefits to being a senior. You get discounts almost everywhere you go, you get to tell "When I was your age..." stories and people have to listen, and now the Ontario government is going to let you (if you're 80 and over, that is) renew your health card through the mail.
The Province will now send a mail-in renewal form to your home (again, you have to be 80 and older). You complete the form, sign the back of the renewal notice, and mail it back in the pre-addressed envelope. No driving, taking the bus, or walking to a ServiceOntario office, and no more waiting in line.
Of course, if you still want to renew in person, you can, but if the government is making it a little easier and less time-consuming, why would you.
The only thing they haven't taken care of for you is the trip to the mailbox, but isn't that what your kids and grandkids are for?
