DURHAM REGION - The DRPS Festive R.I.D.E. campaign is all done, although that doesn't mean they're not finished looking out for drunk and stupid people on the road.
Week Six of the R.I.D.E. campaign concentrated on Ajax, Pickering, Whitby, Oshawa, Courtice, and North Durham, with an additional 16 motorists caught drinking and driving.
That brought the total to 138 people charged with various drinking and driving offences so far, the same total as the entire 2010 campaign, and still another week to go.
The 16 were from ages 18 to 58, and all but two Durham residents. The results of Week Six were:

The seventh and final week of the campaign concluded with another 17 people charged.

That meant a grand total of 155 people charged with drinking and driving offences during the 2011 Festive R.I.D.E. campaign, compared to 138 during last year’s campaign.
Congratulations to those who contributed to this number. You made 2011 an all-time high (both literally and figuratively). Until this campaign, 2008 was the highest year on record with 152 drivers charged.
I can see someone out there going "Hey, we broke a record. Let's celebrate and have a beer!"
As long as you call a cab afterwards.....
Now, here are the campaign totals of Festive R.I.D.E. 2011: (2010 totals in brackets for comparison purposes)
And when we said that Durham Police are not finished looking out for drunk and stupid people on the road?
R.I.D.E programs continue throughout the year.
